I just wanted to share my tremendous sense of accomplishment at completing the Ironman 70.3 Tiberius Triathlon recently. Held in and around the Sea of Galilee, it was the first time an Ironman took place in Israel, which was very exciting for me! The more I think about my preparations, I realize that growing a young company is also a feat of endurance….
Finding Time to Train
Completing Ironman 70.3 Tiberius 2021 was a tremendous personal feat, involving a 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim, a 90 km (55.9-mile) bicycle ride and a 21.1 km (13.1-mile) run, in this order.
To prepare for this event, I had to train for months, waking at 4 am to run, swim, bike or workout for hours, avoiding as much as possible the intense heat of the Israeli summer that extends into November!
It was the only window of time I could find, while working nearly round-the-clock to manage Reveal, the digital analytics company I founded to produce valuable business insights from face-to-face (F2F) interactions and transactions. It was also important preparation for my fourth Ironman – a full one – to be held in Austria in 2022.
Endurance is not Just for Sports
It has become clear to me through my athletic training that achieving success in business is just as personally challenging as a sporting triathlon. The long hours, intense focus and grueling trials are essential to achieving exceptional levels of accomplishment.
On the other side of the insane hours involved, is the incredible ‘high’ of working toward my goals, using my own muscles – whether in my extremities or my brain – to power through shortages of energy (or cash) and overcome obstacles and competition.
I was reminded again, as I completed this physical achievement, that success requires endurance, beyond that of the enthusiast, but of the diehard committed. I believe this mantra: “If my vision is clear to me, achieving my goals will be ‘easy’.” Knowing this gives me purpose, confidence and stamina.
The Wind Beneath my Wings
The day after completing the Tiberius Ironman 70.3, I packed a bag and left for an important business trip, with my body still recuperating from athletic exertion. It is a wonderful ache of accomplishment, which I have experienced after other endurance exercises – in both sport and in business.
As much as I had prepared for this milestone, I could not have done it without the people who support me at home and at work.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my wife and sons, my parents, extended family and dear friends, my colleagues, investors, partners, and fellow triathlon competitors. Your support, encouragement and tolerance motivates me to achieve more than any other sane person could; you are clearly the wind beneath my wings.
